Financial Services
The Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) is the single regulator responsible for the supervision and regulation of financial services in Malta. The MFSA was established in 2002 taking over the responsibilities of the Central Bank of Malta, the Malta Stock Exchange and the Malta Financial Services Centre. The Authority is an autonomous public institution and reports to Parliament annually.
It is the MFSA’s role to ensure that licensed operators are carrying out their business in line with the international industry standards while seeing to investor protection and Malta’s reputation as a financial services jurisdiction is strongly protected. The MFSA requires operators in the financial services sector to adhere to the highest standards of probity and honesty. Furthermore licensees must pass a fit and proper test at licence stage and throughout the duration of the licensee’s operation. Through the fit and proper test, the authority examines the integrity, competence and solvency of the applicants.
